How can Writing Articles such as E-Books, E-zines and Newsletters Help Me

Why write articles such as e-zines, newsletters or even an e-book? For one it's a great way to obtain visitor's e-mail addresses for your autoresponder, allowing them to download something of value or interest. It's all about making your site sticky by giving reasons for these prospective customers to continue to return. There's magic in writing articles given to visitors while maintaining contact with them.

Writing articles can be in many forms. A newsletter, a product information sheet, a how to e-book or anything of value to your prospective targeted customer. The objective is to build an e-mail list of opt-in prospects who have given you permission to e-mail them. Each time they receive an e-mail from your autoresponder, be sure it contains a product offer and another opportunity to place an order. Those are the sales that help increase the 2% to 4%, (see chapter 2) from those who didn't buy during their first visit to your website.

People are hungry for information and many successful website owners are cashing in on this. Ideas include:

publishing books, manuals, documents, special reports, tutorials, newsletters, instructions, presentations, courses, booklets, journals, sewing tips, arts and crafts, gardening, canning, skin care, self improvement, health and fitness, weight loss, animals and pets, dog training, dating, relationships, divorce, traveling, home decorating, home remodeling, plumbing, home buying, home business, etc. The possibilities are endless.

Anyone needing to brush up on their writing skills and would like to take a copywriting course, look at what this Company has to offer. They publish an email newsletter devoted to increasing your success through marketing and copywriting strategies that are proven to work. This Master E-Book Collection could work for those who doesn't want to, or doesn't feel qualified writing copy professionally. Something they can offer visitors enticing them to resister for your email program. At a cost of about $50, this collection of E-book's can be the answer. Everything in this package is yours to sell or give away. Contains over 6,000 different articles. (some articles or books may be dated - back to 2001)

This collection is downloaded and comes on a master e-book that is 427kb. Downloads in less than 2 minutes using a 56k modem. Products inside this master e-book allow for easy downloading at any time.

As long as an e-book is valuable to readers, it's valuable to you. The goal is not only to get subscribers or visitors to download and read it, but have other web sites seeing it as valuable and want to give it away to their visitors. If the e-book is nothing more than advertising, they won’t bother.

The entire idea of writing articles are to either:

  • Sell as an e-book which can be very profitable. One that contains links pointing back to your website's products or to affiliate sites from which you receive commissions.

  • As giveaways to prospective clients keeping your company fresh in their minds as they periodically receive updated messages from you. (again with links back to you)

  • Articles of interest containing valuable information, given to others (editors of newsletters or e-zines) with permission for re-distribution. (as long as your by line is not removed)

  • Adding links back to your website helping to increase link relevancy and page reputation.

Before submitting your manuscript anywhere, be sure to protect what you've written with a copyright. By going to http://www.copyright.gov directly. The fee is approximately $30. If you want someone else to do this for you, consider using this Copyright Service which charges $39 plus the filing fee. This applies to anything you've written that needs copyrighting.

For books appearing in hardcover or paperback distributed by Amazon.com or others, you'll need an ISBN Publisher Prefix. Go to http://www.isbn.org/standards/home/index.asp to apply. Information is found on this website describing what this is, why its needed and the cost. You will need to protect your work by either a copyright, or in the case of books, an ISBN number.

E-zines are "Electronic Magazines." Newsletters, magazines, and other publications that are distributed via e-mail are often called e-zines. E-zine advertising can be a very effective form of advertising on the Internet. Not only effective, but can be very inexpensive depending on the size of publication you choose. To test success, target your audience and track responses. See which ads are pulling the highest response rate by using the different e-mail addresses available with the use of an autoresponder.

The Directory of E-zines has a searchable database of e-zines accepting advertising. It does has a membership fee. http://www.directoryofezines.com/

Search for publishers in your industry. Contact them and ask if they accept articles. If their site has a submit an article link, that's your invitation to submit. If you don't see one, e-mail the website owner and ask. Some publications require that you give permission for them to publish your articles free of charge as long as your bylines are included.

Search for e-zines close to you site theme for your targeted market. Check http://www.ezinelocater.com.

Publishing an e-zine is a great way to build an opt-in list for potential customers. Not only does it enable you to share your expertise with others, but helps to build your credibility. Developing a trusting relationship with potential customers is the key to your e-zine's success. You must help readers to the best of your ability by providing them with information that will teach and inform them in regards to the subject matter.

Offering your e-zine to your subscribers free may seem like a waste of time, but look at the overall picture. This enables you to open a line of communication with your subscribers, who are your potential targeted customers. When they subscribed to your publication, they were saying there was an interest in your e-zine's theme. That provides the opportunity to advertise your products or services with your recommendations.

Once you've built a trusting relationship, those recommendations can be highly effective. However, only recommend those products or services you truly believe in. Remember your reputation is on the line.

Did you realize publishing an e-zine can be one of the most effective ways to make sales? Were you aware that some of top Internet marketers pull in thousands of dollars each month simply publishing an e-zine? Whether your selling your own products, or marketing affiliate products, you can increase sales simply by publishing an e-zine. Not just any e-zine, but one specifically designed to sell for you.

In order to gain new subscribers for your e-zine, you have to continuously promote it. Plan on spending 30 minutes per day listing your e-zine, articles and website through search engines, directories, e-zine and newsletter lists. Making sure they have the same theme as your targeted market. Within a month's time you'll be amazed at the results you'll achieve, not to mention the profits.

Newsletters are a great way to stay in touch with customers. An e-mail arriving on a regular basis, can be a welcome diversion. Even if they're busy when it arrives, it can always read it later. Newsletters can be a very important part of your business. Always give readers the opportunity to automatically unsubscribe at any time, so they don't need to contact you if they no longer want to receive it.

Here are five tips for your newsletters.

  1. The main subject line is critical. Don't assume when you’re sending out a newsletter that potential customers will take time to read it. If the title doesn't command attention, the majority of readers won’t even bother to open your message. Refrain from using overused words in the title such as NEW, FREE, and SALE. Avoid symbols such as ! and $ in your subject line. Some e-mail programs won't show over 35 characters in subject lines. Be sure to get your company’s name and benefit for the user in that space to increase response results.

  2. Put a link to your site at the top of your newsletter. Making readers search for this could hurt click through results. Give readers clear and easy instructions in case they want to unsubscribe. Failing to provide this could have some irate readers complaining. The standard practice is to put unsubscribe information at the end of newsletters.

  3. Keep newsletter files short and under 25kb. Most mail programs will send files over 25kb as an attachment, but this is also the same way viruses are spread. Many readers, who have received viruses in the past, won't open attachments. Be sure to send newsletters to the requesters name who signed up.

  4. When you provide a link in your newsletter, most readers will be able to click on it. However, that link won’t work for America Online mail readers. Depending on your list, that could be anywhere from 10 to 50% of your subscribers. To keep from cluttering your newsletter with AOL links, send aol.com responders a different newsletter or provide links where they can go and download.

  5. Personalize your newsletter by addressing the responder by name. Provide readers with benefits for only those receiving your newsletter. The goal's is to make readers, who may be your best prospective client's, look forward to receiving your newsletter each month. This way your program should prove effective.
